family-557100_640As an attorney, you already know you need to market yourself. What you may not know, though, is that you need to market your website with rich content. Good content, the type which shows off the expertise of your firm, is the best way to rank higher on Google’s search page and become a leading authority in your practice area.
The Basics of SEO

If you’ve never spent time looking into SEO, it’s a good time to start. Search engine optimization helps your site to rank higher on Google’s search page and thus helps you to bring in more customers. When you add in new content, you’ve got a better chance of increasing in rank. Because the amount of time that customers spend on your website matters to Google’s algorithm, creating a content rich site is one of the best ways to ensure that your other SEO work does not go to waste.

A Reason to Come Back

Marking your content is also a fantastic way to keep your website visitors coming back to your site. One visit to your site isn’t going to do much for your ranking or your business, but repeated visits to consult your blog or look at new information will make a world of difference. Think of the content on your site as similar to a traditional television commercial – people pay attention to a single commercial once, and then ignore it. If you want a successful commercial campaign, you’ll need more than one type of commercial. If you want a successful website, you’ll need to create content more than once.

A Resource for Parents

It’s also smart to market your content towards parents who want a resource. As an attorney, you know there’s certain questions that are often asked before individuals will ever think about meeting with you. If you can provide some of those answers on your website, you can help convert visitors to actual paying clients. Becoming a solid resource helps to bring in clients who are actually interested in taking the next step. New content matters, especially when you are trying to build a firm or increase your client base.

Becoming an Authority

Finally, new content helps you to become an authority in the field. You should try to become the go-to name in family law or child custody in your region, and an informative website is a good tool for accomplishing that. By providing information, people in your area will stop searching random websites for legal advice and instead think of your firm as the first stop for anything legal. When you may your firm’s name synonymous with family law and custody, you’ll get recommendations from people who have never worked with you before. Becoming an authority is a great way to increase business.

As a family lawyer, you can increase your visibility both online and in your community by correctly marketing your content. Become an authority and watch as your business is transformed into a leading name in your area. With constant work, you can make your website an incredibly important part of your marketing plan.

How To Draft Family Trusts

Posted by on Jan 12, 2017 in Law Firm Marketing | 0 comments

A trust is a legal arrangement that sets out the allocation of a person’s assets. In a trust, the trustee is the person with the responsibility of holding assets on behalf of one or more parties also known as beneficiaries. A family trust or discretionary trust is a trust that gives the trustee the power to choose the beneficiaries of the trust. A discretionary trust is important for asset protection, minimizing tax, carrying forward losses, and tax discounts. Below is a breakdown of how to set up a family trust.

List Your Assets

The ideal family trust should include all the important assets. A family trust can be funded using various assets such your house, investments, retirement accounts, and cash. I find it important to always include the assets that are likely to be prone to heavy taxes or conflict among beneficiaries.

Choose a Trustee

The trustee is the one charged with administering the trust in accordance with your wishes. A trustee can be one person, several individuals, or a private company. It is my observation that many people tend to use a company as the trustee of their property because of spreading and minimizing the risk of liabilities.

Choose Beneficiaries

List your beneficiaries carefully. Beneficiaries are the people who will receive assets and income from the trust. To avoid unnecessary disputes, it is important that you use a fair process of allocating assets and income to your beneficiaries.

Write the Distribution Rules

Set up a trust distribution criteria to avoid discrepancies when allocating funds or assets from the trust. Include the amounts and the times when income should be paid to beneficiaries and any restrictions.

The Goals of the Trust

It is my opinion that when one decides to draft a trust, they have certain goals in mind. The goal of one’s trust will ensure it is designed in a way that seeks to achieve its purpose. Some trusts are designed to exploit tax benefits while others are meant to protect assets. For example, a family trust might be subject to a 50% tax break on any gains made when the assets are disposed off. A family trust also protects assets from creditors in the event that one of the beneficiaries goes bankrupt.

Choose a Trust Name

I think it is more convenient to use one’s family name as the trust name than choosing another title. Using the family name makes it easier to place assets or income in the trust’s name.

Make a Trust Agreement

After listing your assets, designating a trustee, identifying your beneficiaries, the criteria for distributing the assets and income from the trust, the goals of your trust and your trust name, the next step is to take all this information to a lawyer to enable them draft a trust agreement. The trustee of your trust must accept the terms of the agreement by appending their signature. You should also sign the agreement to show your approval of the trust.

A family trust is one of the best ways of securing your family assets and avoiding unnecessary family conflicts, creditor claims, and other related issues. Consult an attorney on the benefits of a trust and how to go about drafting one.

Marketing for DUI Law Firms

dui

Marketing is often a foreign language for attorneys, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s easy enough for consumer goods companies to sell products but selling legal services is much more difficult. When you’re dealing with services that are first of all expensive and second very important to a person it is much harder to rack in a larger consumer base. The biggest problem is how you’re going to stand out. There is almost no way that you could make your services special or different from any other lawyer. It takes a lot of luck and positive past experience to gain a larger customer base or good marketing. This is especially true for a lawyer just starting his practice. The old model was to work under a well known lawyer until you gained your own credibility and then perhaps become a partner or go out on your own, but lead generation services have changed that so most can start on their own right away. You see commercials, billboards, radio ads, and flyers for lawyers all over the place just like how any company tries to get noticed. Two other common marketing strategies are to create more customers and to target them at the source. Some DUI lawyers have worked with bars to sponsor happy hour parties while handing out their company card to create more customers. If a firm has to pay a bar $500 to host an event, it is well worth the overhead when they can get four new clients paying $1,500 per case. Some lawyers just spend time at bars handing out their cards or putting their ad on the bar coasters. One law firm had the idea of offering to provide clubs and bars with wristbands for free with their ad on them so long as they used them for their patrons. This tripled their business within 6 months because the first thing that drunk sees when they get pulled over is the DUI firms number on their wrist.

One of the most basic but most important forms on marketing today is through the internet. If your DUI law firm wants to keep ahead of its competitors, it must establish a comprehensive attorney internet marketing program, which should include search engine optimization, pay per click, web design, video marketing, and videos. If you can assemble these elements into a unified marketing strategy, you will soon find yourself with a steady stream of targeted online traffic to your DUI website. Search engines are the main information source these days. Over 165,000 online searches are performed each month for the term “DUI attorney” on Google alone. “DUI Lawyer” gets another 90,000 searches. Online marketing companies help your firm to come up first on search engines. This is a big deal considering that most people always click the first result first. Even if you’re only looking for a few more customers per month having a good marketing strategy can really boost your firm to the next level.
